Solve Insurance Advisers is the innovation of Kelvin McDowell and James Thompson. After working together previously, they felt creating their own business would allow them to focus more on their clients, the community and becoming an integral part of the local insurance network.

Meet The Team
Kelvin McDowell
I was born and bred in Taranaki with over 8 years’ experience in the Insurance Industry.
My life experiences have included the Royal NZ Airforce, playing and coaching rugby in Ireland, and running a business with my wife that worked with children in sports and schools.
My insurance experience with brokers began in 2015 and includes corporate experience with ANZ bank and Cigna Insurance in New Plymouth. I am a proud father and husband of our blended family of 8, with four of our children now in the adult world and building careers for themselves.
My personal interests and hobbies include keeping fit training for events which lead me to complete my first full Ironman in 2023. I love working in our community and have dedicated a number of years to coaching rugby at schools, senior club, and representative level. A daily habit I enjoy is my early morning (coffee on home stretch) and evening walks with my wife Bridget and our Chocolate Lab Tali.
My philosophy in life is we all have a story to tell, we have all learnt through lives lessons which can be tough at times. I take pride in listening to what people have to say, support where I can and focus on the future and what we can make of it.
James Thompson
Taranaki born and Bred I am your typical New Plymouth local. Myself and my partner Kirstin have strong ties to the Taranaki community with me from North Taranaki and Kirstin from South Taranaki providing a well-rounded team.
I will often be found on the sidelines of one of my son Jacob’s many sporting pursuits or otherwise enjoying home life with my little daughter Sophie.
My past sporting life of cricket and football has now turned into the casual swing of a golf club, venturing into the many cafes around the mountain to sample the coffee and becoming a recent novice on the road bike.
Professionally I have spent the past 10 years in the insurance field locally here in Taranaki. The remainder of my career has been in sales or customer service roles both here in NZ with a short stint in Australia (don’t hold it against me!) contributing towards a vast knowledge of the insurance world.
One of my skills is breaking down the often confusing jargon into everyday terminology, making the process much more efficient and clear. I also enjoy getting out of the office to see people in the comfort of their own homes or businesses, as I understands the juggle of family and work life can be difficult.
Therefore, I make sure to be adaptable to appointments. I am also never far from my phone and so am available to support, advise and advocate for you in your times of need.
Honesty, commitment, integrity and empathy are some of my key values which I bring to my role as an adviser.
Erin Vaughan
Like the rest of the SOLVE fam, I am Taranaki born and bred but also spent some time living across the ditch in Melbourne – which I loved!
I am a mum to two boys and a doggo! They all have way too much energy but they’re
pretty rad and keep me super busy.
I love my family, friends, coffee, food, a good laugh and a long run…the longer the
better! I’m currently training for a couple of ultra trail running events scattered throughout the year.
I come from a strong background in banking and understand the world of compliance that we operate in. I’m excited to get to know our clients and offer a high level of service which fits in well with the company values of SOLVE.
